Learning from the work on the ground breaking Atlas Asimi and Ultra plug development project as well as building on the outstanding original Mavros design, the new Atlas Mavros adopts the latest world-leading construction methodologies. Manufactured using the highest-quality technique for drawing copper, "Ohno Continuous Cast" or OCC this state of art process increases the conductivity of the material by ensuring that there is less than one grain or signal deleting crystal boundary in about 125m of conductor! This allows the signal to travel through a continuous conductor instead of traversing repeated grain boundaries - in other words, the signal has a faster, cleaner and more direct path to follow. Getting the design of the dielectric correct is critical in achieving the desired fidelity as principally the application of the dielectric defines the speed (bandwidth) performance that will allow the free flow of the most subtle nuances . For the all new Mavros, Atlas uses a highly porous microporous PTFE (Teflon) tape, which is wound with particular attention paid to control over tape tension to ensure the optimal amount of air is trapped per revolution. With increased volume of PTFE tape used attention then transfers to the overall profile of the dielectric which inherently needs to be geometrically stabilised using an extruded protective PE (Polyethylene) sleeve. This process allows the required geometry of the conductor within the dielectric to be maintained and offers greater consistency and wider bandwidth.
The construction of the new Mavros interconnect cable consists of a pair of identical conductors, each made up from six bundles of 12 multi OCC conductors plus a thicker solid OCC conductor in the centre. After application of the dielectric insulation the conductors are covered by a continuous Copper-Mylar electrostatic screen and a copper close weave shielding braid ensuring the minimal pick up of RF interference and noise. The outer sheath is made from hard wearing PVC covered by decorative black woven Polyester.
Screen Distortion To combat the negative affects of RFI interference, traditionally cable manufacturers use a combination of metallic foil and/or braid, which surrounds the cable and is terminated at one or each end of the cable. The mechanical process of terminating cables via this braid usually involves partial removal as well as twisting of the braid to create a “conductor”. This introduces mechanical screen distortion deep within the remaining cable structure and thereby delivering inconsistent RF performance. To improve absolute performance and manufacturing consistency for the new Mavros Atlas has developed a new system that uses two symmetrical drain wires (each attached to 180 degree segments of the plug) inserted between a 100% copper Mylar foil and SPC screen. This unique system connects the screen effectively to the cable return plug interface and provides total 360° screening, whilst not distorting the integrity of the screen in any way.
Mavros XLR-XLR The Mavros XLR to XLR analogue audio interconnect uses separate going and return conductors together with a woven screen. The screen with 100% coverage, rejects RFI interference. The two separate conductors dedicated to the going and the return signals are wired separately from the ground conductor. The Atlas XLR plugs employed are a unique design that needs no solder at the conductor to plug interface.

Pin 1 = Ground Pin 2 = Hot Pin 3 = Cold
A few amplifier producers wire their systems with different conventions. Always check with the manufacturers instructions before ordering. If you need these wired in a different way, the factory will do that for you. Because the conductor to plug interface is crimped, they may not readily be altered in retrospect.
